About Us

Mathematical and Physical Sciences is a vital part of the core curriculum at Ohio State, teaching and training the next generation of scientists, teachers, health-care professionals, policy makers, and informed citizens. We have educated many of the world’s top scientists, including Ohio State’s first female Rhodes Scholar in 2007.

Ohio State is a Top 10 Research University with three-quarters of a billion dollars in research funding. Our research initiatives in Mathematical and Physical Sciences are an important component of that success. Our projects are multidisciplinary, innovative, well-funded, and have global scope and respect. Nine of our physics professors, their graduate students and post-docs have played a critical role in the Large Hadron Collider.

We have first-rate faculty, internationally known as leading experts in their fields; for example, Lonnie Thompson, considered the world’s leading expert on global warming.

We are committed to excellence, diversity, outreach, service, and creating new knowledge to benefit humankind.
